Our story

Twenty-six years of buildings

Alderton Associates was formed in January 2000 and is regulated by RICS (firm 038441). We are a chartered building surveying practice of surveyors, technicians and an office team, based in Chelmsford and working across Essex, London and the South East.

Who we work for. Housing associations and local authorities, schools and academy trusts, private homeowners and landlords, and the solicitors, insurers and managing agents who instruct on their behalf. Named clients include L&Q, Metra Living, Westminster City Council, Thurrock Council and Sutton Housing Partnership.

Scale of appointment. From a single party wall award or defect inspection to a 2,600-home stock condition programme in a year, and school building projects up to £5.8m administered on live sites.

What we do. Stock condition and building surveys, defect and damp investigation, party wall awards, planning and Building Regulations drawings, contract administration and project management, CDM Principal Designer and expert witness reports.

How we work. Surveyor-led from first call to final report, with chartered oversight. Every job is reported through our own Project Portal, so clients see status, photographs and documents as the work happens, and our surveyors record on site digitally so reports reach you sooner.

How we work

  1. Step 01

    Plain English

Every report is written for the person who has to act on it.

  2. Step 02

    Evidence before opinion

What we saw, what we measured, then what we think it means.

  3. Step 03

    Say what we don’t know

If something needs opening up or monitoring first, we tell you.

  4. Step 04

    See it through

When a report recommends work, we can design, tender and manage it.
