Health & Safety / CDM

Our team of Surveyors possess wide ranging skills and knowledge to enable us to offer our private and public sector client’s excellent advice on construction health and safety and other related services.

The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM 2015)

The CDM Regulations came into force on 6 April 2015. They are the main set of Regulations for managing the health, safety and welfare of construction projects and apply to all construction work including new build, demolition, refurbishment, extensions, conversions, repair and maintenance.

The Regulations identify seven duty holders and places duties on each; commercial client, domestic client, designer, principal designer, principal contractor, contractor and worker. The Regulations also stipulate when construction projects are ‘notifiable’ to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), if the construction work is expected to:

Last longer than 30 working days AND have more than 20 workers working at the same time at any point on the project OR exceed 500-person days.

Our role as Principal Designer

  • Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the pre-construction phase.

  • Identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks.

  • Ensuring designers carry out their duties.

  • Ensuring Principal Contractor fulfils their duties. Liaise with the principal contractor to help in the planning, management, monitoring and coordination of the construction phase.

  • Prepare and provide relevant information to other duty holders.

  • Prepare the health and safety file.

We utilise experience in Surveying, Project Management and Architectural Design to provide a thorough understanding of the design processes, construction methods and relevant legislation to fulfil the role of a Principal Designer. We are proud to be included on the Association for Project Safety CDM Register and to be accredited by The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS).
